The owner of the player being bid on has to match or outbid the highest bid during the 24hr time limit. An owner does not match the high bid at the end of the auction.
GLS has two types of Franchise Tags and one Transition Tag that can be used.
Franchise Tags Explained:
1. Super Franchise Tag: Cost 100 GLB's. This tag allows GMs to avoid the RFA session altogether and the player remains the property of the franchise that places the tag on him. The player can then be assigned contract years. Can only be used once every 3 seasons
2. 1ST RD Tag: Cost 50 GLB's. This tag gives GMs the ability to receive compensation of a 1st round pick in the event that this player is signed by another team. Can be used every year
** Franchise tags must be declared prior to RFA. (GLS commissioner will announce the deadline)
** Franchise tags can only be used on players who are RFA.
** Franchise Tag players participate in RFA. SUPER Franchise Tag players do not!
** If a player that has the franchise tag placed on him is signed by another team during the RFA period the team that signs him must compensate the player's former team with a first round pick. The first round pick must be for the upcoming years rookie draft or the following season. Compensation must be within a 2-year period.
EXAMPLE: If Team A loses A Brown (franchise tagged) to Team B in 2016. Team B must give Team A a 1st round draft pick in 2016 if they have one, if they have 2 picks in the current draft it is the winners choice of pick. If no current pick it must be a 2017.
** If you don’t have a first round pick in both the upcoming and following years drafts, you can’t bid on any Franchise Tagged players.
** The cost of using the Franchise Tag will be (50 GLB's) The 50 GLB's goes towards the player, if a team wants to bid on your player the bid must start at 51 GLB’s.
** If a franchise does not have sufficient GLB's to cover the cost of the franchise tag they will be excluded from using their tag.
** IF the team that placed the Franchise Tag on said player wins auction he is responsible for the difference in the final price. (Final Price minus $50 already paid)
3. 2ND RD Tag: Cost 25 GLB's. This tag gives GMs the ability to receive compensation in the event that the player they placed the transition tag on signs with anther team. Can be used every year
** Each GLS franchise will be allowed to use ONE transition tag each season.
** The Transition Tag must be declared prior to RFA. (GLS commissioner will announce the deadline)
** The Transition Tag can only be used on players who are RFA.
** Transition Tag players participate in RFA.
** If a player that has the transition tag placed on him is signed by another team during the RFA period the team that signs him must compensate the player's former team with a second round pick from the current draft. If the winning team has multiple 2nds they have choice as to which one they give up. If they do not have a 2016 they must compensate a 2017. Compensation must be within a 2-year period.
EXAMPLE: If (team A) loses A Brown (franchise tagged) to team B in 2016. (Team B) must give (team A) a 2nd round draft pick in 2016. or 2017.
** If you don’t have a second round pick in the next 2 years drafts, you can’t bid on any Transition Tagged players.
** In the event that the team acquiring said player has multiple picks
in Round 2, the team gietting the player can choose which pick they want
to give as compensation for said player.
EXAMPLE: Team A Transition Tags Tom Brady, Team B wins Tom Brady in RFA and has two second round picks in upcoming draft. Team B gets to pick which second round pick they want as compensation.
** Teams may use their transition tag each year but are not required to do so.
** The cost of using the Transition Tag will be (25 GLB's) The 25 GLB's goes towards the player, if a teams wants to bid on the Transition tagged player the bidding must start at 26 GLB's.
** If the team that placed the Transition Tag on said player loses player in RFA, the franchise gets the cost of using the tag ($25 GLB's) credited back to them.
** If a franchise does not have sufficient GLB's to cover the cost of the transition tag they will be excluded from using their tag.
** IF the team that placed the Transition Tag on said player wins auction he is responsible for the difference in the final price. (Final Price minus $25 already paid)
E.3 Time Frame
All tags (Super Franchise, Franchise, or Transition) can be announced in franchise headquarters thread from the conclusion of the Week 17 game until the Friday before Superbowl Sunday at 8:00 PM EST.
ACE: 10 GLB's Can be used every year
Each franchise has one ACE (Annual Contract Extension). This ACE is exclusive to each franchise and cannot be traded and does not carry over year to year if not used. Any player can be ACE'd except for a tagged player. You can ACE a player for 10 GLB's and that player gets another year on your franchise. If you re-ACE the same player the following year, it doubles in price each season for that same player: 1st year 10, 2nd year 20, 3rd year 40 etc.
